Enabling Existing Products

The Objective

Network-enable an existing Access Control system featuring a serial port.

Traditional Approach

External Device Servers, such as our own DS203, or embedded serial-to-Ethernet converters, such as our EM200 are often used for the purpose. These transparently transmit serial data over the network, but do not allow adding other features, such as web-based configuration.

Our Solution

Use the DS1206 programmable controller or EM1206 programmable embedded module. Available Ethernet-to-serial application can be freely used and requires no additional design effort. Add extra features on top of this regular serial-to-Ethernet functionality. For example, a customized web interface tailored for a particular access control product can be added.
